This is the Frequently Asked Questions… it’ll probably be updated pretty frequently, so check it often.
All the prices you say are in yen… how much is that in dollars?
At the time of this writing, the exchange rate is about 105 yen to a dollar, but generally, dividing the amount of yen by 100 is pretty safe. So if something costs ￥10,000, that’s about $100. Basically it’s like counting prices in pennies.
What exactly is <insert a food I mentioned here> that you mentioned?
Well, to be entirely honest, I’m not sure what most of the stuff I eat here is. When I go out to eat for example, I have a couple of ways of picking my meals. I either… 1) find something that has a picture and looks good and point to it, saying kore kudasai (“This please.”); 2) find something that has a name I can actually read, so I can ask for it and not sound like an idiot; or 3) pick randomly.
So yeah, I’m not always 100% sure what it is I’m eating… but the people in the restaurants are usually nice enough to say the name for me, so I can write about it in this blog
HOWEVER, feel free to ask me anyway… but if I know, I’ll generally write about it.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
